GRAPPLE
This game is currently the subject of a research project! If you wish to participate in the study, please read the following carefully before playing:
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the user experience of an experimental video game. The game is fully playable in a web browser, though a windows build is also available. The windows version can offer better performance (and a proper fullscreen by pressing alt+enter) but is otherwise identical. It is recommended if you have a less powerful PC. A mouse is recommended, but a trackpad or other pointer device can also be used. You have no obligation to participate and can abort or revoke your participation at any time.
In order to participate, play the game and fill out the provided form. Note that since it's hosted on Google Forms, we do not have full control of the data management. No personally identifiable data is collected by the researchers, and all collected data will be fully anonymised before being used, but it is possible that Google collects additional session data beyond that.
The game is a simulation of being lost in a cave, it is played by using the A and D keys to move your character and using the mouse to operate a grappling hook (aiming with the pointer and clicking to fire). There are two endings: Your character either escapes the cave by finding an exit (marked with white), or dies in the cave.
Once an ending has been reached, you will be supplied with a three-digit ending code containing information about your play session and given the option to play again. The test lasts until you feel done with the game (though please play it at least twice). When you do, simply make note of your final ending code and move on to the form.
PLEASE NOTE: The ending code retains data from previous playthroughs, so please do not reload the page once the test has started.
